Viking Double Oven: One Cavity Not Heating
One functioning cavity is useful information, but it does not prove the entire double oven has healthy supply, controls and heating components. Describe the upper and lower ovens separately. Avoid transferring a diagnosis or part number from one cavity to the other without checking the model-specific design.

A simple observation diagram
Read from step 1 to step 4. This is a guide to the next conversation, not a diagnosis or a repair procedure.
- Identify upper or lower cavity
- Record its mode, setting and message
- Compare the last normal operation of both
- Request diagnosis of the affected cavity
When to stop troubleshooting
Stop using an oven that sparks, smells of burning wiring or has damaged glass. Let it cool before inspecting accessible surfaces. Never defeat a door lock or remove a heating element for a test. If there is a gas odor, leave the area and call the utility or emergency services from outside.
Make sure the intended cavity is selected
Review the normal control sequence in the owner guide. Some panels share controls or require selecting an oven before setting a mode. Record whether the affected cavity remains cold, warms partially or stops during cooking. A timer or lit display can be mistaken for a heating command, so include the actual selection shown.
Provide separate histories for the two ovens
Note the last successful use of each cavity and whether the failure followed self-clean, a power interruption or another event. Include any difference between bake and broil that you already observed. Do not run simultaneous high-temperature cycles as a stress test. If there are electrical warning signs or a recurring breaker trip, stop using the appliance rather than relying on the cavity that still heats.
Avoid assuming both cavities use identical parts
Heating assemblies, sensors, control paths and access arrangements depend on the design. A technician should test the affected function and verify compatibility before ordering. The repair discussion should explain whether a shared condition is involved and whether use of the other cavity is appropriate while awaiting work. A parts diagram is useful only when it corresponds to the complete model and the correct cavity.
Find the right manual and diagram
The linked built-in oven manual includes single- and double-oven families. Check the double-oven model listing and use its control and cavity illustrations to label the problem upper or lower; do not infer interchangeable parts from visual symmetry.
5 and 7 Series electric oven manual: features and controls
This example covers listed VSOE, VDOE, VSOF7301 and VDOF7301 built-in electric ovens. A range oven, gas oven or a different generation can use different controls and parts.
For another model, use the official Viking documentation library. Match the full model and document coverage before following an illustration. A numbered callout is not automatically an orderable part number; compatibility must be confirmed for the appliance.

Questions about this symptom
Can I use the working cavity until the repair?
That depends on the fault. Stop for electrical or overheating warnings and obtain advice based on the actual condition rather than assuming the other cavity is isolated.
Does one cold cavity mean the main control must be replaced?
No. Several supply, heating, sensing and control conditions can produce that symptom. Testing should establish the cause.
Prepare a useful service request
Share the complete model, your city and service address, the symptom timeline and any exact display message. Include a photo or short recording when it can be obtained safely. Keep the appliance accessible without moving it or removing panels. Ask about the diagnostic visit, proposed work and parts availability before approving a repair.
